Mikael Niemi

Mikael Niemi (born 1959) is a Swedish writer. He grew up in Pajala in northern Sweden. His first novel, *Popular Music from Vittula*, was published in 2000 and received the August Prize, one of Sweden’s major literary awards. The book sold more than one million copies, was translated into 24 languages, and was adapted into a film.
