Michel Serres

Michel Serres (1930–2019) was a French mathematician and philosopher. He studied at the École navale and the École normale supérieure, where he received the agrégation in philosophy in 1955. He subsequently rejoined the French Navy and spent several years at sea. From 1969, Serres taught the history of science at the Sorbonne, and from 1984 he was also a professor at Stanford University. He was elected to the Académie française in 1990. In 2012, he received the Meister Eckhart Prize.
