Michel Montaigne

Michel de Montaigne (1533–1592) was a French jurist, philosopher, and humanist. A skeptic, he is regarded as a founder of the essay form. He was also a politician connected to the Catholic faith and had access to influential figures of the French monarchy at the end of the Renaissance and the beginning of the Counter-Reformation.
