Michel Jean, born in 1960, is an Innu author from Mashteuiatsh on Lac Saint-Jean in Quebec. After studying history and sociology, he began working in 1988 as a journalist and presenter for the French-Canadian broadcasters Radio-Canada Info and TVA Nouvelles. Alongside his journalism, he has written novels and edited anthologies of writing by Indigenous authors from Quebec, including Amun and Wapke. His notable novels include Kukum, Tiohtiá:ke, Atuk, Maikan and Qimmik. Kukum received the Prix littéraire France-Québec in 2020 and the Prix littéraire Nature Nomade in 2021. He also published Envoyé spécial, a 2008 book about his work as a reporter.
