Michel Butor (born 1926) was a French writer and an important representative of the Nouveau Roman movement. He studied philosophy and philology at the Sorbonne in Paris and taught or worked as a French teacher in Cairo, Egypt, Manchester, Thessaloniki, and Geneva. In addition to fiction, he wrote books featuring experimental texts. His multifaceted work received several distinctions, including the Prix Renaudot.
