Michal Ksiazek, born in 1978 in Oraczew, Poland, worked as a cultural scholar and ornithologist and wrote reportage and poetry. His book »Jakutien, Wörterbuch eines Ortes« (2013) was nominated for the Gdynia Prize. His poetry collection »Wissenschaft von den Vögeln« (2014) received the Silesius Prize for Poetry. In 2016, Ksiazek was awarded the Gdynia Prize for Essay in recognition of his travel reportage »Straße 816« (2015).
