Michael Wala

Michael Wala (born 1954) taught as a professor of North American history at Ruhr University Bochum. He previously worked at universities in the United Kingdom, the United States and Germany, and spent a year as a visiting scholar at Stanford University. He studied economics, history, education and American studies in Hamburg and Madison, Wisconsin, earning, among other qualifications, an M.A. in history and two doctorates. His research has focused on American history, international and transatlantic relations, and the history of intelligence services. His publications include No New Gestapo: The Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution and the Nazi Past (2015, with Constantin Goschler) and Otto John: Patriot or Traitor—A German Biography (2019, with Benjamin Hett).
