Michael Horowitz

Michael Horowitz (1950–2024), born in Vienna, was a photographer, journalist, writer, and publisher. He wrote biographies of figures including H. C. Artmann, Leonard Bernstein, Heimito von Doderer, Egon Erwin Kisch, Karl Kraus, Otto Schenk, and Helmut Qualtinger. He also founded the “freizeit” magazine of the Austrian newspaper Kurier and co-published the book “Schenk. Das Buch” with Otto Schenk. Horowitz received numerous Austrian and international awards, including the Grand Decoration of Honour for Services to the Republic of Austria, the Austrian Cross of Honour for Science and Art, First Class, and the Prix de la Jeunesse at the Cannes Film Festival for the screenplay “Caracas”.
