Michael Herbst (born 1955) studied Protestant theology in Bethel, Göttingen and Erlangen. After working as a research assistant in Erlangen, he served as a pastor in Münster and Bethel, including at a children’s hospital, and as a hospital chaplain. From 1996 to 2021, he was Professor of Practical Theology at the University of Greifswald. He was also the founding director of Greifswald’s Institute for Research on Evangelism and Church Development.
