Michael Braungart is a chemist, professor, and one of the pioneers of the Cradle to Cradle design concept. During his academic and entrepreneurial career, he was a professor at Leuphana University Lüneburg and founded EPEA Internationale Umweltforschung and the Hamburg Environmental Institute. He was also a co-founder and scientific director of McDonough Braungart Design Chemistry (MBDC) in Charlottesville, Virginia. In recognition of his work, he received, among other honors, the Golden Flower of Rheydt in 2019, one of Germany’s oldest environmental awards.
