Mela Hartwig (1893–1967) was an Austrian actress, painter, and writer. Born in Vienna, she published the novella collection “Ekstasen” (1928) and the novel “Das Weib ist ein Nichts” (1929). As a Jewish author, she increasingly faced difficulties finding a publisher. In 1938, she emigrated to England with her husband, Robert Spira. Between 1946 and 1948, she wrote the novel “Inferno,” which was not published during her lifetime. Hartwig died in London in 1967.
