Maurice Maeterlinck (1862–1949) was a Belgian writer, poet, and dramatist who wrote in French. He is regarded as one of the leading representatives of literary Symbolism. His best-known works include the plays “Princess Maleine” and “Pelléas et Mélisande,” as well as lyrical and philosophical essays. He also wrote works on nature, including “The Life of the Bees” and “The Life of the Ants.” Maeterlinck was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1911. In addition to writing, he pursued beekeeping as a personal interest.
