Matthias Wenzel was born in Gotha, Germany. From 1988 to 1992, he worked as a teacher of English and Russian in Saxony-Anhalt. From 1997 to 2000, he served as director of the Bach Stammhaus museum in Wechmar. As a freelance writer and publisher, he authored numerous essays and illustrated books on local history.
