Matthias Jendis

Matthias Jendis (1959–2009) was a German translator. He translated works by Patrick O’Brian, Alice McDermott, and Patricia Highsmith, among others, from English. In 2002, he received the Heinrich Maria Ledig-Rowohlt Prize and the Nicolas Born Prize for Emerging Writers for his acclaimed new translation of Herman Melville’s “Moby-Dick, or The Whale.”
