Matthias Heyl

Matthias Heyl was born in Hamburg in 1965. He studied history, psychology and education, and earned a doctorate with a comparative study of “education after Auschwitz” in Germany, the Netherlands, Israel and the United States. Heyl has written books and essays on the educational treatment of the history of the Holocaust. From 1998 to 2002, he headed the Research and Working Centre “Education after/about Auschwitz” in Hamburg. In 2002, he took over the management of the Ravensbrück Youth Meeting Centre of the Brandenburg Memorials Foundation.
