Mathilde Schwabeneder is an Austrian journalist. She first went to Rome in 1983, where she studied Romance languages and literature, earned a doctorate and began her journalistic career. After returning to Austria in 1995, she initially worked in the ORF’s religion department and later served as the broadcaster’s foreign correspondent in Rome. She produced radio and television reports from Africa, Southeastern Europe and Latin America, and covered Italian politics and major papal events. As a multilingual journalist, she also focused on women in the Mafia and their role in criminal networks.
