Mathijs Deen

Mathijs Deen (born 1962 in Hengelo) is a Dutch writer and radio producer. He studied Dutch literature in Groningen and worked in radio before publishing novels, columns and short stories. A collection of his short stories was nominated for the AKO Literature Prize. In 2018, he received the Halewijn Prize for the literary quality of his work. His novels include *Unter den Menschen*, *Der Schiffskoch* and *Der Holländer*, the first crime novel featuring the German-Dutch detective Liewe Cupido. In 2024, Deen received the Dutch crime fiction prize De Gouden Strop for *Der Taucher*, the second book in the series.
