Matei Chihaia is a scholar of Spanish and Romance literatures. He earned a doctorate in comparative literature, Romance philology, and philosophy from Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich. In 2010, he was appointed professor of Spanish and Romance literary studies at the University of Wuppertal. His research and publications address twentieth-century literature and culture, including the reception of Pablo Picasso’s “Guernica.” His books include “Extensiones del ser humano: funciones de la reflexión mediática en la narrativa actual española” (2014, co-edited with Susanne Schlünder) and “Guernica entre icono y mito. Productividad y presencia de memorias colectivas” (2020).
