Mary Shelley

Mary Shelley (1797–1851) was a British writer. Born in London, she was the daughter of the philosopher and feminist Mary Wollstonecraft and the writer William Godwin, and grew up in an intellectually and literary oriented environment. She became internationally renowned for her novel Frankenstein; or, The Modern Prometheus, published anonymously in 1818 and regarded as an early work of speculative fiction and science fiction. Her other works include the novels The Last Man, Mathilda, and Lodore, as well as short stories, essays, and travel writing. After the death of her husband, the poet Percy Bysshe Shelley, she edited and published his works.
