Mary Ann Shaffer

Mary Ann Shaffer was born in 1934 in Martinsburg, West Virginia. She worked as a bookseller and librarian. Her first novel, *The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society* (published in German as *Deine Juliet*), appeared a few months after her death. Shortly before her death, her niece Annie Barrows, an established children’s author, helped her complete the book.
