Born in 1959, Martin Zimmermann is a German ancient historian. He studied history and German at the University of Kiel, received his doctorate in 1990, and completed his habilitation at the University of Tübingen in 1997. In 2002, he was appointed Professor of Ancient History at Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich. His research focuses on ancient historiography, the historical geography of Asia Minor, ruler representation, violence in antiquity, and the history of ancient cities. His publications include “Pergamon: History, Culture, Archaeology” and “The Strangest Places of Antiquity”.
