Markus Decker, born in 1964, studied political science, sociology and Romance studies in Münster and Marburg. From 1994 onward, he worked as an editor in Lutherstadt Wittenberg and Halle. Starting in 2001, he was a parliamentary correspondent in Berlin, initially for the Mitteldeutsche Zeitung and the Kölner Stadtanzeiger, and from 2012 also for the Berliner Zeitung and the Frankfurter Rundschau. In 2018, he joined the Redaktionsnetzwerk Deutschland (RND). He received the Münsterland Journalism Award in 2006 for an autobiographical text about his hometown.
