Mark Waid (born 1962) is an American comic-book writer who began his career as an editor at DC Comics. He gained recognition in the early 1990s through his long-running work on The Flash. For Marvel, he wrote the X-Men crossover Age of Apocalypse, Deadpool’s first solo series as its title character, and stories featuring Captain America. In 1996, he and artist Alex Ross published the award-winning bestseller Kingdom Come, which received several honors, including an Eisner Award. Waid also wrote comics featuring Superman, Batman, the Justice League, the Fantastic Four, Spider-Man, the Avengers, and Daredevil. His creator-owned series include Strange Fruit, Ruse, Irredeemable, and Ignited. In 2015, he worked on the relaunch of Archie and later served as Chief Creative Officer of BOOM! Studios and Director of Creative Development at Humanoids.
