Marie Vieux-Chauvet

Marie Vieux-Chauvet (1916–1973) was a Haitian writer and playwright. Born in Port-au-Prince, she qualified as a primary-school teacher in 1933. She began appearing as a playwright in 1947. Her first novel, «Fille d’Haïti», was published in 1954, followed by works including «La Danse sur le Volcan» (1957), «Fonds des Nègres» (1960), and the trilogy «Amour, Colère, Folie» (1969). Her final novel, «Les Rapaces», appeared in 1971.
