Claudia Steinitz (born 1961 in Berlin) studied Romance languages and literature and translated more than 100 books from French into German, chiefly works from France, Switzerland, and Haiti. Among the authors whose work she translated are Virginie Despentes, Véronique Olmi, Albertine Sarrazin, Claude Lanzmann, and Catherine Safonoff. With Tobias Scheffel, she translated works by Véronique Bizot, among others, as well as letters by Albert Camus and Maria Casarès. Her work has received the Johann Friedrich von Cotta Translation Prize and the Jane Scatcherd Prize.
