Author · 1 book
Maria Gleit was the pen name of German writer Hertha Gleitsmann (1909–1981), who was born in Crimmitschau. She published her first novel, “Abteilung Herrenmode,” in 1933; in 1935, the National Socialists placed it on their list of undesirable literature. After fleeing Germany, she reached the United States in 1940, where she published several children’s and young adult books in English. After the Second World War, she returned to live in Switzerland.
