Margret Busby

Margret Busby was born in Ghana and studied at Bedford College, University of London. In the late 1960s, she co-founded the London-based publishing house Allison & Busby, becoming the youngest and first Black African woman publisher in the United Kingdom. She worked as an author, journalist, literary critic, editor and publisher. She is particularly known as the editor of the anthologies “Daughters of Africa” (1992) and “New Daughters of Africa” (2019). Busby served on the juries of, among others, the Booker Prize, the Caine Prize for African Writing and the Commonwealth Book Prize. She was an Honorary Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature and received, among other distinctions, the Africa Writes Lifetime Achievement Award and the London Book Fair Lifetime Achievement Award.
