Marcus Hammerschmitt, born in Saarbrücken in 1967, studied philosophy and German studies or literary studies at the University of Tübingen. He is an author, journalist and photographer whose work includes novels, short stories, essays and poetry. His books include “Target,” “Instant Nirwana,” “Yardang,” “H-Null. Ein Deutschlandmärchen,” and the poetry collection “Der Brief des Nachtportiers.” He has received the Würth Literature Prize, the Essay Prize of the Büchergilde Gutenberg, the German Science Fiction Prize and the Kurd Laßwitz Award, as well as several fellowships from the Förderkreis deutscher Schriftsteller in Baden-Württemberg.
