Marc Engelhardt (born 1971) studied geography, biology, law and philosophy. From 2004 onward, he worked as a freelance foreign correspondent, initially from Nairobi and later from Geneva, reporting for outlets including Deutschlandfunk, ARD and the epd news agency from more than 30 African countries. From 2011, his work also included reporting on the United Nations. Engelhardt wrote and edited numerous books, including *Holy War – Holy Profit* and *Weltgemeinschaft am Abgrund* (2018). He received the Prix Nicolas Bouvier for the latter. He served for five years as chair of the World Reporters correspondent network.
