Malte Herwig, born in Kassel in 1972, is a German author and journalist. He studied literature, history and politics and earned a doctorate from the University of Oxford. Herwig has written for publications including the magazine of the Süddeutsche Zeitung, Spiegel and Stern. His books include Die Flakhelfer, Die Frau, die Nein sagt about Françoise Gilot, Meister der Dämmerung about Peter Handke, and Der große Kalanag about the magician Helmut Schreiber. In 2004, he received the Thomas Mann Förderpreis for his work on Thomas Mann. In 2019, he created the award-winning podcast Faking Hitler about the forged Hitler diaries.
