Maha El Hissy

Maha El Hissy, born in Alexandria in 1980, holds a doctorate in German studies and has worked as a literary scholar, curator, and critic. She studied German studies in Cairo, Bayreuth, and Munich. Her academic work focused, among other topics, on postcolonial theory and the representation of flight and exile in literature. She taught in Berlin, Cairo, Munich, and London and worked with the DFG research group “Beginnings (in) Modernity” at Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich. In 2025, she curated the Arabic-language podcast series “Ne7ki,” featuring Palestinian authors in and outside Gaza.
