Ludwig von Friedeburg

Ludwig von Friedeburg (1924–2010) was a German sociologist and politician. He studied psychology, philosophy and sociology, among other subjects, in Freiburg. During the 1950s, he worked at the Institut für Demoskopie in Allensbach and at the Institute for Social Research in Frankfurt am Main, where he completed his habilitation in 1960 with a study on the sociology of the working environment. In 1962, he was appointed to a professorship in sociology at the Free University of Berlin. He served as Hessian Minister of Education and Cultural Affairs from 1969 to 1974 and subsequently was managing director of the Institute for Social Research until 2001. His research focused on industrial, youth and educational sociology. In 1994, he received the Goetheplakette of the City of Frankfurt.
