Lucien Leitess, born in Zurich in 1950, studied history, philosophy and German literature. After working as a radio and television salesman, freelance journalist and exhibition organizer, he founded Unionsverlag in 1975 and led the publishing house until 2023. His exhibition projects included a commemorative exhibition on the artist Martin Disteli. Alongside his publishing work, he developed publishing software and a tool for the worldwide transition to ISBN-13. In 2015, he was named “Publisher of the Year” by the trade magazine BuchMarkt. He received the Canton of Zurich Culture Award in 2017 and a 2023 City of Zurich award for his longstanding publishing work.
