Ljudmila Ulitzkaja

Ljudmila Ulitskaya (born 1943) is a Russian writer. After studying genetics, she worked for several years at an academy in Moscow before turning to literature. Her first texts were published in 1983, and she established herself as an author in 1992 with the novella “Sonechka.” Her work includes novels, short stories, screenplays, radio plays and dramas, including “The Funeral Party,” “Daniel Stein, Interpreter,” “The Big Green Tent” and “Jacob’s Ladder.” Ulitskaya has received numerous awards, including the Russian Booker Prize in 2001, the Austrian State Prize for European Literature in 2014, the Siegfried Lenz Prize in 2020, and the Erich Maria Remarque Peace Prize and Günter Grass Prize in 2023.
