Leonardo Boff

Leonardo Boff (born in 1938 in Brazil) is a Brazilian theologian and one of the founders of Latin American liberation theology. He was a professor of systematic theology in Petrópolis and later of ethics and religion in Rio de Janeiro. Alongside theological questions, his work addressed social justice, human rights, and ecology; he was also an early theological thinker on ecological issues. Boff co-authored the Earth Charter and published more than eighty books. He received the Alternative Nobel Prize, or Right Livelihood Award, in 2001 and the Carl Friedrich von Weizsäcker Medal in 2016.
