Leon de Winter, born in 1954 in ’s-Hertogenbosch, is a Dutch writer and filmmaker. From 1976 onward, he worked as a freelance author and wrote novels as well as short stories, reportage and plays. Several of his novels were adapted for film and television, including “The Heaven of Hollywood” and “SuperTex.” His novels have been translated into 20 languages. In 2002, he received the WELT Literature Prize for his body of work; in 2006, he was awarded the Buber-Rosenzweig Medal for his commitment to combating antisemitism and racism. In 2009, he received the Literature Prize of the Province of Brabant for “The Right to Return.”
