Leo Strauss

Leo Strauss (1899–1973) was a philosopher. He earned his doctorate under Ernst Cassirer in Hamburg in 1921 and subsequently studied with Edmund Husserl and Martin Heidegger in Freiburg. From 1925 to 1932, he worked at the Academy for the Science of Judaism in Berlin. After research stays in Paris and Cambridge, he moved to the United States in 1938. He taught at the New School for Social Research in New York and, from 1949, at the University of Chicago, where he taught and conducted research for roughly two decades.
