Laurie Halse Anderson

Laurie Halse Anderson, born in 1961 in Potsdam, New York, studied languages and linguistics. Before turning to literary writing, she worked as a journalist and later as a part-time bookseller. As an author of children’s and young adult fiction, she became particularly well known for her novel “Speak,” which received ten awards in the United States. “Speak” and “Chains” were nominated for the National Book Award. Anderson received the Margaret A. Edwards Award in 2009. Her widely recognized works address difficult subjects with openness and sensitivity.
