Laurence Sterne

Laurence Sterne (1713–1768) was an Anglo-Irish writer and Anglican clergyman. Born in Clonmel in the Kingdom of Ireland, he studied theology at the University of Cambridge and later served as a vicar in northern England, including Yorkshire. He became known for the multi-volume novel The Life and Opinions of Tristram Shandy, Gentleman (1759–1767), whose unconventional narrative techniques challenged established literary conventions. His other works include The Sermons of Mr. Yorick and A Sentimental Journey Through France and Italy (1768). Sterne died in London, reportedly of tuberculosis.
