Kristina Maidt-Zinke was born in Bremen and studied German, English and Scandinavian studies. She spent periods of her life in Finland, France and Italy and worked as a travel journalist. Her work included freelance literary and music criticism, translation, essay writing and editing. For the German Literature Archive in Marbach, she examined and documented Robert Gernhardt’s “Brunnen-Hefte.” She also served as a juror for the German Translator Fund. She grew up with the Moomin books and met their creator, Tove Jansson, in person during a stay in Finland.
