Konstantin S Stanislawski

Konstantin Stanislavski (1863–1938) was a Russian actor, director, acting teacher, and theatre reformer. In 1897, he and Vladimir Nemirovich-Danchenko developed a program for a new kind of theatre, which led to the founding of the Moscow Art Theatre in 1898. Through his lifelong work as a teacher and director, Stanislavski developed the system that bears his name, which strongly influenced actor training and the development of Method Acting. His major writings include My Life in Art, An Actor’s Work on Himself, and An Actor’s Work on a Role. His manuscripts were compiled and published after his death.
