Klara Blum

Klara Blum (1904–1971) was born in Czernowitz, Bukovina, and grew up in Vienna. She studied psychology and worked as a journalist. As a Jewish woman with socialist views, she emigrated to Moscow in 1934 and moved to China after the Second World War. She became a Chinese citizen and worked as a professor of German studies under the name Zhu Bailan. She is regarded as an important voice in German exile literature. Her works include the novel »Der Hirte und die Weberin«, published in East Germany in 1951. She died in Guangzhou in 1971.
