Ken Follett was born in Cardiff, Wales, in 1949. He began his career as a reporter for the South Wales Echo and the London Evening News. He achieved his breakthrough as a novelist in 1978 with the thriller Eye of the Needle, which won the Mystery Writers of America’s Edgar Award for Best Novel in 1979. He became internationally known for historical novels including The Pillars of the Earth and World Without End, both of which were adapted for television. His Century Trilogy—Fall of Giants, Winter of the World and Edge of Eternity—explores the history of the 20th century. His other works include A Column of Fire, The Evening and the Morning and The Armour of Light. Follett has also supported literacy initiatives and served for ten years as president of Dyslexia Action.
