Katja Gehrmann (born 1968 in Hamburg) is a German illustrator of children’s and picture books. She studied illustration in Guadalajara, Mexico, Valencia, Spain, and at the Hamburg University of Fine Arts and Design. After graduating in 1999, she worked for book and magazine publishers. Her notable work includes the illustrations for “Nelson, der Käpt’n und ich” and “Gans der Bär”. Her illustrations received, among other distinctions, the UNICEF Picture Book Prize in Bologna in 1995, the Golden Apple at the Biennial of Illustrations Bratislava, and the Troisdorf Picture Book Fellowship. Her books were nominated for the German Children’s and Young Adult Literature Prize several times; in 2019, one of her books received the Children’s Book Prize of North Rhine-Westphalia.
