Karsten Brensing

Karsten Brensing is a marine biologist and a researcher with a doctorate in behavioral science. He studied in Kiel and later researched the interaction between dolphins and humans in Florida and Israel. He completed his doctorate at Freie Universität Berlin in 2004. Brensing subsequently worked for ten years as scientific director of the German office of the whale and dolphin conservation organization WDC. He later worked as an independent consultant and author, including for the European Commission, German ministries, and environmental and animal-protection organizations. He wrote several books about animal cognition and emotions, including *Das Mysterium der Tiere* and *Wie Tiere denken und fühlen*. He was a co-founder of the animal-protection initiative Individual Rights Initiative.
