Karl Vossler

Karl Vossler (1872–1949) was a German literary historian and prominent Romance philologist. During the first half of the 20th century, he taught at the universities of Heidelberg, Würzburg, and Munich, where he died in 1949. He was particularly known for his work on an idealist approach to linguistics, which drew on Wilhelm von Humboldt’s theory of language and opposed the prevailing positivism.
