Karin von Schweder-Schreiner

Karin von Schweder-Schreiner was born in 1943 in Poznań. She studied in Germany and Portugal and lived in Brazil for several years. As a translator, she translated works by authors from the Portuguese-speaking world into German, including Jorge Amado, Chico Buarque, Antonio Callado, Bernardo Carvalho, Mia Couto, Rubem Fonseca, Lídia Jorge, and Moacyr Scliar. Her work received several awards, including the International Translator Prize of Brazil’s Ministry of Culture in 1994 and the Albatros Prize of the Günter Grass Foundation Bremen in 2006.
