Born in Southern Baden in 1971, Jutta Person is a journalist and literary scholar. She studied German, Italian studies and philosophy in Cologne and Italy, and earned her doctorate with a dissertation on the history of physiognomy in the 19th century. From 2004 to 2007, she was an editor at Literaturen; from October 2011, she was responsible for the books section of Philosophie Magazin. Her articles have appeared, among other publications, in Süddeutsche Zeitung, Literaturen, Die Zeit and Philosophie Magazin. In 2012, she served on the jury of the German Book Prize. In 2023, she received the Alfred Kerr Prize for Literary Criticism and the Johann Heinrich Merck Prize for Literary Criticism and Essays.
