Julia Bertschik, born in 1964 in Leverkusen, is a Germanist and literary scholar. She studied German literature, theatre studies and art history, received her doctorate in 1993 and completed her habilitation in 2003. She worked as a Privatdozentin in modern German literature at the Free University of Berlin and held visiting and substitute professorships in Germany and abroad, including in Beijing, Łódź, Oxford, Ohio, Klagenfurt, Berlin, Essen, Bonn and Frankfurt am Main. Her research focuses on the literary and cultural history of the 18th to 21st centuries, drama and theatre, the history of culture and knowledge, as well as gender and fashion studies. Her publications include “Mode und Moderne” and an edition of Vicki Baum’s “Pariser Platz 13”.
