Jules de Goncourt (1830–1870) was a French writer. Together with his brother Edmond de Goncourt (1822–1896), he published several novels. From 2 December 1851, the brothers also kept a joint diary known for its unsparing observations of their time. After Jules’s death, Edmond continued the diary alone until his own death.
